'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith resumes contest with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he recalls the dramatic closing stages of Swansea's stunning fightback win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear after the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative effort from distance, and his teammate promptly slammed home the deflection before charging toward the East Stand to revel in the moment, with fans mobbing the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The victory sealed an unbelievable recovery given Swansea had been behind 2-0 during the second half. During the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and Josh Key and I were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

That win secured a next round match at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with the London side in February. Galbraith had arguably the best view when the underdogs took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's long-range effort from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. It seems unfair that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for taking the effort on from that range," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before moving to right flank after they changed shape. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the City players who praised the way the underdogs played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are very good but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they know how to control and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're all right and then abruptly they will just thread a ball through a line without you even spotting it. You have to be alert every second of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and concentration just to stay in the game."

Welsh Transition

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to secure him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at his former club and has swiftly replicated that in Wales. At the London club he joined forces once more with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in first-team action on loan at his loan club from Manchester United. Then came a temporary move at League Two the Manchester club, before he permanently left Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without real physicality. There are limited physical contests. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

He has demonstrated that maturation for club and country, excelling for his national side, who remain in contention for the global tournament next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including two matches games against the German national team. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's former international manager, paid him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a decisive through ball.

Early Days

It has been quite the ride for the kid from the local area in Glengormley, just outside Belfast, who used to see his dad, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's single match for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a European competition trip to Astana, where they played on an synthetic surface and the venue ceiling was shut owing to the weather of freezing cold. "This represented a long trip and it was chilly," he says, smiling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects trained together, so that aided our adjustment. Just to travel with the first team and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he transferred from aged a teenager? "The decision proved quite easy, because I got to the stage where I understood I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm hugely grateful for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I thought I had to take a different path, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily working my way back up."

New Environment

This occurs during mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has an appointment at the early evening: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the young professional was a frequent passenger in Swansea's nicknamed team minibus, a team vehicle driven by academy staff, the drivers, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, an Ivorian player – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to spend time with the guys but I'm aiming to be the next one to drive independently and driving. Franco is known for his humor; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Leyton Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside supporters on public transport after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
